Privacy Policy

When you respond to Studies hosted by MindSampler, we collect, on behalf and upon instructions of Studies creators, information relating to you and your use of our services from various sources. These are listed below. The sections afterward describe what we do with this information.

Email address. To facilitate sign-up, we collect the email addresses of the Studies’ respondents. We don’t sell these email addresses, and we use them only as directed by the Study creator and follow this policy.

Studies responses. The Studies creator is responsible for your data and manages it. A Study may ask you to provide personal information or data. Remember, you can always choose not to provide an answer to any given Study question (especially those requesting your personal information or data). However, sometimes this will prevent you from completing a Study if the Study creator has marked that question as requiring an answer. If you have any questions about a Study you are taking, please contact the Study creator directly, as MindSampler is not responsible for that study's content. The Study creator may have invited you to download the MindSampler app and enter their Study code, and sometimes they have their own Privacy Policy. Depending on the Studies creators’ needs, we may collect and store some of the responses that you submit.

Are your Studies’ responses anonymous? It depends on how the Study creator has chosen to make their Study available to mobile users and what personally identifiable information they may ask for in the Study they have created.

Usage data. We collect usage data whenever you interact with MindSampler. Our servers keep log files that record data each time a device accesses those servers. The log files contain data about the nature of each access and error logs to assist in servicing our app.

Device data. We collect data from the device and application you use to access our services, including device type and app version. We may also gather your geographic location if you opt in when downloading the mobile application.

Sensor data. If you opt in when you download the mobile app, we may collect data from the sensor of your device, such as the accelerometer, the current level of your battery, and the ambient noise level. While we will never use or sell this information, we may pass it to Study creators who need it (e.g., a researcher interested in studying how physical activity or noise impacts people’s mood).

How Does MindSampler Use This Information?

Your Study responses are owned and managed by the Study creator. Please contact the Study creator directly to understand how they will use your Study responses. Some Study creators may provide you with a Privacy Policy or Consent Form when you download their Study. We encourage you to review that to understand how the Study creator will handle your responses.

Depending on the Studies creators’ requirements, we may collect and store the responses you submit to a limited number of questions. This allows, for example, to compute the personal feedback the Study creator wants to display to respondents within the app (e.g., the number of questionnaires taken, your average answer to a question). We delete this information once the Study is over.

We also use the information we collect from you (including usage data and device data) to manage and improve our services.

 

With Whom Do We Share Or Disclose Your Information?

MindSampler does not sell your Study responses!  We disclose your usage and sensor data to Study creators only. We distribute questionnaires and experiments for Study creators, but they are the primary curator of the data. Anything you disclose in your Study responses goes directly to their database. Please contact the Study creator directly to understand how they might share your responses. 

 

What Are My Rights To My Personal Data?

MindSampler app users/data respondents may uninstall the app at any time. MindSampler app users/data respondents may request to delete personal information from MindSampler servers via a simple email at contact@mindsampler.com. Data deletion requests that originate in this way are completed within 30 days after the request is made to MindSampler.

For requests to access, update, or delete anything in your responses, contact the Study creator.

Other Information

We may modify this Privacy Policy at any time, but we will notify you by publishing the changes on this website if we do so. For any changes to this Privacy Policy for which we need you to provide prior consent, we will provide you with reasonable notice before changes become effective and provide you with the opportunity to consent. If you disagree with the terms of this Privacy Policy or any updated Privacy Policy, you may close your account at any time.
